
As one of Philadelphia’s historic congregations, St. Augustine Catholic Church will be available to tour as part of Interfaith’s Religious Freedom Walk. The walk is self-guided, and includes twelve of America’s historic houses of worship. Visitors can pick up a “Passport to Understanding,” a personal guide to exploring and reflecting on “Religious Freedom: Then and Now.” Passports will be available at the Independence Visitor Center or at the church.

St. Augustine will host a program entitled “Religion and the Immigrant Experience: Building This Country Together.” A panel of scholars, historians, theologians and community leaders will discuss how the history of religious pluralism in the US is inextricably linked to the immigrant experience and how this informs our future. Learn the history of St. Augustine’s, an immigrant church, which was burned to the ground during the Nativist Riots of 1844.
